Gold Coast Aquarium Society of South Florida - GCAS This forum is for all members and prospective members of the Society to stay in touch. The GCAS is a casual club of freshwater hobbyists of all experience levels who meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. The meetings start with time to mingle, then a quick review of club business, usually followed by a presentation given by a club member or invited speaker, and finally an auction of fish, plants, and products. Usually we have coffee and cookies for refreshments.

List of equipment:
Small power filter
strong bubbler
lid

the tank is mostly bare, and kept inside a transparent wall greenhouse-like building (roof isn't translucent). the tank is currently unheated (it will be for the cooler months) and I just bought 8 veil angelfish from The Fish Net prior to reading this! I got some information from the older woman (no offence intended, I didn't get her name:o) that I should do 2-3 gallon water changes daily (I think 5 gallons is still safe, but I'll try what she said first), making the tank ok for this amount of angelfish; she also told me to NEVER breed a black to a black, because the fry will be extremely fragile (if they even survive), but to breed a black to a lace..... The tank has small gravel, a tall plastic plant, two 4 inch tall java ferns, and a little pennywort; I'll post pictures tomorrow. I just got access to another 55 gallon tank, currently populated with apple snails.

My plan is this: the tank they are currently in will be forkeeping them until I get any pairs. when that happens, I'll remove the pair to a 20 gallon tank - previously set up and cycled - so they can do their thing by themselves. I'll let them breed a fe times themselves, but if they still havn't made any progress on raising the eggs/fry, I'll remove the eggs to be artifitially incubated. once the fry are free swimming, I will put them it the second 55 gal. to grow them out..... eventually selling the eccess juvies at dime size. the pair will most likely stay in the 20 gallon by themselves.....

If anyone has any comments or tips, please feel free to post or even PM!!!

P.S. STILL NEED PLANTS!!!!! (please :o:o:o). the tank is being lit by indirect sunlight, but i'd like to know if there is a machine that keeps the water from getting too hot...........

Exclamation Cold Front!

that cold front was a close one..... I was afraid that I'd come back to a tank full of dead angelfish at school! I don't have any spare heaters laying around, and, of course, neither does the instructor. my mom doesn't want to spend any more money yet, so I was hoping that one of you guys could donate one or let me borrow one until spring. please?:(:(:(

BOD meeting? what's that? thanks rodolfo!!!
the temperature was cold enough to make the angels lethargic, but they still came to the front when i walked over..... i didn't feed them because i knew that koi and goldfish sholdn't eat if the temp goes below 55, and since angels are tropical, i suppose that they shouldn't eat at like 65, maybe.... besides, they still had round bellies!

Default Eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!

today, a pair formed and layed eggs on a plastic plant!!! I didn't catch the spawning, but I suspect the male is the silver veil and the female is the marble veil, she being the larger. I believe this is the case because the silver was the one doing the majority of the protecting while the marble was hovering by the eggs. I set up a 20 gallon that I happend to find (turns out that I have the two twenties I needed :o) and filled it up, but i'm going to leve the pair alone in the tank with the others, until the eggs hatch, grow, or get eaten..... this is only because they only took 1/4 of the tank..... i'll post pictures soon!!!
