Default sapphire skimmer problem?

I jsut set up my new 34 gal solana with a new sapphire skimmer for this tank. When I plug in the skimmer the water bubbles up over flowing the collection cup and lifts up the lid. Is this just becasue it is new and needs to break in or is there another problem? The water level in the tank is where instructions says it should be and skimmer gate is wide open, which instrutions says to leave for the first week. Any one have any ideas?
Thanks

Default Re: sapphire skimmer problem?

well even if brand new the skimmer shouldnt over flow past the collection cup. i have never had a skimmer do this anyways other than when i first plug it in before i make any adjustments. what you need is to open the exit valve a bit because if you aren't letting the water out of the skimmer as fast as its coming in you will flood the collection cup.
