I was at my lfs and saw a hi-fin banded goby that was paired up with a pistol shrimp. The little shrimp was tending his burrow and the goby was perched out front. I would LOVE to add the pair to my 20gal tank, does anyone have any experience with this? Do they always pair up or is possible to get one of each and have them ignore each other? It would be housed with an ocellaris clown and a 6 line wrasse someday, but currently I have no fish and would like the goby/shrimp combo to be the first fish in the tank. I also have a peppermint shrimp but the lfs said they aren't aggressive.

Yup, thats the way to do it if your planning of the a HiFin, get them paired up. The relatioinship is kinda like the Clown Fish and the Anemone.

So If I want them paired up, I should buy them already paired up. Makes sense
I'm giving my tank a week or so since I just got a starfish and shrimp, but hopefully this duo will be the next inhabitants.

You don't have to buy them paired up, but most LFS sell em that way. Easier to get them that way too.
