Default uv sterilizer a no go!!

can some one please help!!! I have just picked up a coralife 36w uv sterilizer (used) and the prev owner said all it needs is a bulb with a new bulb it still wont turn on !!! so im thinking the ballast is bunk!! is there anyone who could tell me if i can get a new ballast and where ....thanks

e-mail the manufacture and maybe they have replacements. Electrical / lighting supply stores carry ballast. Maybe they have what you need. Home depot has ballast too.

Check the connections for corrosion first... Especially where the bulb goes into the plug. Are you sure you got the correct bulb? Its kind of tricky to make sure you have the proper uv bulb, as there are so many different kinds out there.

Also, I'm not a believer in UV sterilizers. I've run one years ago, but I found if you are not adding fish often, you are just killing bacteria that your reef will want... Meaning you have to do much more water (new salt) changes than you would without a uv sterilizer...

but, thats just my opinion based on my experience.
