I just bought a tank and it came with a used protein skimmer. The skimmer does not have any brand name or model number. It came with a pump, but it does not have a venturi valve on it. I hooked the skimmer up in the bathtub and water just overflowed the top. Any ideas on what is missing and how to get it running? I am only familiar with the hang on protein skimmers. Thanks

HI nemo
I am not familiar with that type of protein skimmer. I can tell you thought I purchased a Red Sea Prizm Delux Protein Skimmer for about $100. The deluxe has a couple of add ons including a media filter to go in the outflow chamber, and it hangs on my 50 gal tank and it really works. The one you were showing I believe is designed to work in a wet dry sump system. Sandsifter |

The skiimer probably has a place on the pump that you attach an air hose to to allow the air bubbles to separate the protein from the water. look on the discharge end of the pump. and see if it has a little hollow post on it. attach the airhose so the other end is out of water, and it should work fine.
If that is not it, please take some closeup pictures of the pump and skimmer inflow area, so I can see if it is a venture style protein skimmer. Thanks, Bill |
