Default reactor macro refugium

Im wondering if any one has done this before or thoughs on the negative effects? The idea is to place the macro algie in the phosphate reactor using low flow through the macro and have it feed back to the display so what ever pods that decide to enter the water colum will enter the display without having to go through a pump to get there.

not sure what you mean about pods in this case.. but its a decent idea.. just put light on it and make sure it doesnt all get blown into the tank.

Pods are in reference to the copapods, ampapods and other tiny bug like creatures that seem to flourish in micro algae. I have had it running for 2 weeks so far and seems to be working exelent. I was abel to install 1reactor with carbon and phosban then use the out put of it to supply the flow for the inlet side of the 2nd reactor with algae then the return goes to the tank . I'll have to give it a little more time to tell if the pods start to flourish in this enviroment as strongly as they did in the hang on back filter

sound like the same function as a refugium above the display tank.

I'm hopeful to get the same resuls as a refugium above the tank but without the need to sacrifice water volume in the tank to compensate for the added water volume that is needed in the dual tank situation. But time will tell how it works out.

Understand.

Actually any hob container should work well. One guy modified an aquaclear filter for instance. Just replaced filter material with macros and added a light. He reported nitrates dropped down in a couple of week.

I have been running an aquaclear 70 for over a year with the same modification and it does an exelent job but for some reason the filter has been loosing its prime so it sits there not running for who knows how long till I find it. Im planning on using the spot where I remove the aquaclear from to install a rio nano skimmer. Im hoping to get plenty of filtration on the nano tank this time around ;)
