Default My Skimmer Quit Skimming

I installed an overflow box and sump and moved all my filters, heaters and skimmer to the sump. Aesthetically, mission accomplished! However, my skimmer no longer puts out that good dark nasty stuff.. I've made adjustments and so far nothing has changed. All my water conditions are within parameters (with the exception of calcium, which I'm still working on)

I'm wondering..

#1 Could it be that there isn't enough water "turnover" in the sump to accumulate proteins like it did when it was hanging on the back of the tank? I believe the overflow box is rated at 300gph, my aquarium is a 75g. I wonder this because I've had to gate back the return pump a great deal to keep it from draining my sump.

#2 Could there be a relation to the water level as it relates to the skimmer? Could it be that the skimmer isn't working because the water level in the sump is much lower in comparison to how it was on the back of the tank?

#3 Could it be something else I'm completely missing? I bet it is #3!

It's been freshly cleaned and it's a venturi type skimmer...

Thanks!

Default Re: My Skimmer Quit Skimming

I've solved this problem, is there a way to delete these posts since no one has answered them??? Since there's no info to share with others it seems like this post is cluttering the website. I took my skimmer out of the sump and move it to the back of the tank.
