Default Lighting for nano reef

I am wondering if I can still use my florescent light fixture from my fresh water aquarium with new bulbs. Its a single florescent bulb. Thanks

Everyone I know with a nano reef uses either T5 HO or metal halide bulbs, or a combination. If you're only putting in soft corals, the T5 HO should be enough.

Yes it could...do you know if your t-5's have individual reflectors or not? What size tank are you lighting?

I'm not quite sure if they have individual reflectors, and it will be lighting a 10 gallon. I dont think I'll be using the 36" but purchasing another of the same since my lfs has good prices on them

How long is the 10 gallon? Any double t-5 light especially with individual reflectors will be able to grow and keep any coral you want.

I decided to go the route of LEDs. (as everyone probably knows by now haha). I had a 15 watt T5 and a 20 watt 50/50 CFL on my tank before that and it clearly wouldnt have been enough. The easiest thing to do is try what you have and if nothing seems to grow, then get more. How many watts is that T5 you have and how long is it as well as how long is your tank?
