Default Lighting Help

Hi!

So we're in the process of starting a 33 gallon coral reef tank. It's a tall tank (h - 24" w -20" d - 17") and we're planning on having soft coral and a couple of fish.

What type of lighting do we need? We're trying to keep the costs as low as possible but we're having a hard time understanding what type of lighting we need to buy.

thanks!

at the least id use T5HO's or at the most metal halides. are you capable of making things? if so then you can get the parts and make your own light fixture or use a fixture and gut it.

Yeah we'd probably be capable of making things. Are there any good sites for help with making your own reef tank light fixture?

here is one way you can make a DIY metal halide fixture which seems pretty simple, and with a tank that deep i think i would go with MH. There are websites dedicated to DIY aquarium projects. just type it into google. hope this helps

$70 DIY 70W HQI Metal Halide
