Default led reef lighting

Hello. I am just getting back into the hobby and am going reef. My new tank will be 64x26x28 and is being proffesionally set up and maintained initially till I am comfortable I will not kill the whole tank and lose investment. My biggest question is about led lighting. they seem to be popping up everywhere and I see them here now. Do they penetrate well for proper growth and are they truly as good or better as all the websites say. I would like to use them but do not want to hurt my tank. Then which ones...especially if I want to try to mimic true day/night cycles to optimize health of tank. How is the best way to decide on how many/size etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

bah humbug,

sure you save a ton on you're electric bill, they look nice, and from everything I've read they work....but they are relatively new too the reef tank lighting 'scene'.

I never like to get something as soon as it comes out...there are always flaws.

^^^ my .02 someone else may love them.

I think LED's have been around for about 3-4 years as reef lighting so I guess they are kind of new. Here is a good read IMO.

I read the link but it talks about building a light. I would like to find some that are prebuilt....primarily because of time available. I have seen lots on the web but don't know which ones to trust. Has anyone had any experience with the...Primarily the ones that are dimmable and can be programmed for day/night cycles etc.
