Hi everyone, I have a question and havnt had much luck finding the answer. I have a 72 gallon bow front with the back glass drilled with the PVC runing to my sump.
My problem is this iv had the tank up for about 6 months now and it came with 10 gallon sump. What I want is a bigger sump so can set up a little different. And the problem with this is iv tried a 20 gallon long and I can not get it to fit, it has all the room in the world under the stand it's just that the center support is in the way. Iv tried turning every way possible and no luck! What I was woudering would it work if I took 2 ten gallon tanks and had the sides drilled where I could put one in, and then go to the other side and put the other one in and then connect it that way and go from there? Does anyone know if this would work and have the same affect as a larger sump. Or would I be wasting my time. I don't really want to drain the tank and go from the back side in. Just let me know if you got anything to help. Thanks |

Honestly....remove the top 2 screws from the center support, place your larger sump in, and put the center support back up.

Do you think the weight from the tank will mess anything up? And thanks for your reply

I used a plastic storage container with the long dimension fro and aft of the stand/tank. Just let it hang out the back with some wood supports.

honestly i don't think having the support out for 10 minutes max to get the tank in will be any issue. Keep a piece of 2x4 cut to size in the event god forbid the weight IS an issue....but I really doubt the center support will be an issue for less then 10 minutes.

If temporarily removing the center support on your stand is a problem, the two smaller tank sump configuration should work just fine. I would make sure that the plumbing between the tanks is the same or greater diameter than the "drain" in your tank. Depending on your stand, by going to the two tank system you might even be able to put two 15 or 20 gallon tanks width-wise under your 40 breeder.
Good Luck. klinemw |

I have taken a lot of center supports out with no prob. 55,75,120 gallons ones but would I tell anyone to NEVER.... Because I would hate to see something go wrong.. With that said go to the feed store and get a black stock tank there like $30 and you will be on the right track. This link will show you what I'm saying take a look Oval Stock Tank 40 gal - 2229846 | Tractor Supply Company
And this is a 40 gallon one................ Good luck
