No idea I imagine they need off time to process but I am no plant expert lol my timer does a day night thing so when my day light turns off the night turns on. I have my sump light come on at night. I do 12/12 cycle with a morning/evening cycle that I have to do manually.

The concern is caulerpa going sexual or sporating and clouding up the tank.

As long as you are consistant in the lighting you should be ok. Sometimes a lighting change triggers the sexual/sporation events.
