I have a yellow lab too about the same size. Noticed yesterday he was digging a whole under a rock in our sand bottom. This morning he was sleeping in it under a plant and rock. Looks like he made a home and his own territory for himself. Maybe yours is doing the same thing.

African cichlids are movers and builders... I've woke up to my cichlids tank completely rearranged before. Things may seem heavy to us but they find ways. Also make sure when you add new cichlids to the tank to change the setup inside the tank and move around all decorations . this confuses them and spreads the aggression out from the newbies

It is common. They will pretty much move any thing you put in there that is not nailed down

My convicts do the same thing. Every time i clean the tank and put things back where I want it and do water changes. they fight over territory again.. just a little lip locking but not bad.. and they sure shove the sand around and dig up my plants.. want to find a hunk of rock or coral to attach it too so it will stop floating around lol
