Just means you will have more filters to clean at your water change, you can under-filter but not over-filter, that s unless you have about 100 of them in your tank and no room for the fish

The only effects would probably be cleaner water, and probably a stronger current in the tank. You can't over filter, but it's way too easy to underfilter!

Just watch the current. Some fish can get stressed if they are constantly being pushed all around the tank.

Loss of efficiency, increase in redundancy, although in our case, it's a good trade off. Two outboard motors on a boat, for example two 100 hp motors, cost more in fuel, weigh more (slower boat) and cost more in maintenance, than one 200 hp motor, yet it's a good idea if you are going offshore in bad weather. ;-) Been there, done that! Yikes!
I have enough extra filters about the house so that if one of mine fails, it'll be replaced with something in a matter of minutes. And I do run a big hob in conjunction with the cannister on my 55g Cichlid tank, just because I can. I guess that my heaters consume much more electricity than my filters. Even so, I don't think they contribute a significant amount to my bill.
