I got a pearl gourami on friday. This is the fish that has the "zit" I asked about in another thread. For the last few days, all it seems to do is swim up and down in the corner of the tank. He will occasionaly move to another corner and swim around in circles around the intake of the filter, but moving up to the top and back to the bottom seems to be his favorite thing to do.
I did a 20 gallon water change yesterday and added a little aquarium salt. (maybe a tablespoon) The tank is a 55 gallon with a penguin 330, a penguin 170 and a penguin 125 on the back. filtration isnt an issue. I also have a fusion 200 airpump running with a 4 inch airstone, airation isnt a problem. The other inhabitants are 4 platys and 2 banded loaches. They leave him alone so he isnt pesterd by the other fish. The temp stays at 73 degrees and water chemistry is 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 10 PPM nitrate. The "zit" dosent seem to be getting any bigger or smaller and dosent seem to be changing at all. I picked the gourami because I wanted a dosile, mellow fish. In the tank at the LFS he seemed to just kind of hover in place and slowly move around. Which is what I was hoping for. But he seems to be restless for some reason. |

That is something normal they do till they get accustomed to the tank which can take a couple of weeks or more.
Also they would be much happier with your temp up to at least 77

There might be too much water flow making him uncomfortable, or he's just settling in.
