What is it you're trying to do, using a RO system? I wouldn't use one personally if there wasn't some purpose. Also, if you have a water softner for the whole house you should bypass it for your aquarium water.

I use a RODI system to take down the kh/gh of my water for planted tanks and better CO2 usage.

alot of RO's are used with a water softner. I use RO systems and looked into one as well but the cost to add the softner was unneeded at the time.

with a planted tank I would not treat the water in any way.

With some peat moss in the substrate and by not doing water changes you should be fine without the RO.

but then I don't use RO so couldn't tell anyway.
