Default What makes you smile?

Here are a few of the things about my aquarium that make me smile.

When I feed my fish baby brine shrimp the small fish, like the H. Rasbora, look like a bunch of swallows chasing mosquitoes, while the big fish, like my angel, can't figure out what the heck all the excitement is about.

My YoYo loach, who has it's own little log and uses it, sometimes insists on going into the big log with my 12+ inch Pleco. The Pleco, at least so far, gently shrugs his shoulders until the loach gets the hint and leaves.

Sometimes when I feed my fish white worms, one will make it to the bottom where a Ghost Shrimp will grab it. As the worm twists and turns the shrimp precedes to make lunch of it.

What makes you smile?

What makes me smile is when I feed my B.Mahachai they make a smacking noise at the surface, lol.

Also the way the B.Pi play is like dolphins.Such large graceful fish!

The B.Macrostomas sway to each other, and greet me every day while impatiently awaiting food. They also hunt BBS.Looks like they are snatching at nothing,as the shrimp are so tiny, yet the macs mouths are huge!

Watching my juvinile angelfish growing and changing.

Learning something new about the fish or plant species in my tank

Growing plants! I've NEVER in my life been able to keep a plant alive, not a houseplant, nor a flower garden, even a vegetable garden leaves much to be desired when in my hands. But my aquarium garden.....well may not be perfect but is by far the prettiest thing I have ever had a hand in growing!

When my loaches do silly things.

Spotting a tiny baby cherry shrimp.

The way my Pumpkinseed Sunfish is always staring straight at me when I wake up in the morning.

Watching my darters act like puppies begging for food every time I go near the tank or even walk in the room, and every time I feed my baby Bluegill he flares at me in a shaking motion almost like he is warning me to stay away from his food. I also enjoy watching my puffer hunting snails that are twice his size, so patient and elegant.

  • Getting up every morning and seeing a living, thriving 10 gallon tank of lifeforms.
  • Seeing no little bodies floating on the surface.
  • Seeing Fred and Willie (my 2 DAFs) waiting patiently for their food while sitting on their plate.
  • Finding my evening Aquarium Forum email telling me about the day's happenings.

What makes me happy:
hen I feed my fish black worms, and the little cardinal tetras go after the biggest ones, one grabs it and runs with it while the others try to play tug of war with it.
*Or after dinner time, for exercise my Platys go to the corner where the filter is, and just swim up and down with and against the current. We call it workout hour on the tredmill. Because they eat like pigs

When my Gouramis and Angels come to the front of the tank to greet me and beg for food. Sometimes they are no where to be seen, then out of nowhere, they zip to the front... it's like they are hiding in the plants watching and waiting for me!

When the gouramis bump my arms and hands when I'm working in the tanks, and let us tickle them and cup them in our hands in the tank (they are like dogs!) XD

When my African Dwarf frogs are being tweezer fed their food and go from docile little frogs to vicious feeding monsters. And also when they shed and leave little frog skin pants and feet around the tank as well as when they do their 'shedding dance' trying to get the skin off, and when they zoom to the surface for air then bumble to the bottom to hide... or when they float motionless and zen like from the bottom to the top and just hang there.

Seeing new baby Assassin snails all the time!

Hearing the little lip smacking noises the fish make when they eat.

Feeding frozen foods to the fish, because they love it so much! It's on big free for all frenzy!

Finally being able to grow nice plants.
