Well yesterday i got my hands on a 55 gallon that came with a bunch of african cichlids which include: 4-5 yellow labs, 2 mbuna's, 1 bumblebee, 1 that is completely black and has horizontal electric blue lines.

It also came with an ehiem canister filter, i hooked that baby up to my current 55 and wow! I cannot believe the water quality change the water is crystal clear compared to the piece of sh*t HOB filter i had!

Also came with a giant fake drift wood cave and a log, about 15 slabs of black slate, gravel, background pic, heater, airpump, airstone, a python 50 foot siphon and it hooks up to the faucet! thats a huge++++++++++++++++ no more buckets!!

i am selling this new tank(just the tank) to someone today and will be keeping all of the goodies it came with!

So how much do you think i paid for all of this??

I would have guessed $100 and that would still have been an excellent deal. Congrats, I hope you sell the 55 for a good bit too. Got to know, was this a Craigslist deal?

Yeah I got another 55gal, stand, 2 filters, hood & lights, air pumps... and a 44gal corner tank, stand, filters, hood, lights...

All for FREE :D

I dont have any room for these 2 tanks, so I traded the entire 55 setup to a buddy of mine for a smaller 40gal tank he had laying around. And I gave the 44g setup to my brother in law who has been eyeing my tanks everytime he comes over.

Its amazing how many people are willing to give away their tanks. This lady had both these tanks just sitting in her garage. By the looks of the cobwebs and spiders, it had to have been for a few years... but i filled both tanks and they both hold water... all the pumps and filters worked.

This is by far the cheapest hobby I have ever been into!

Lol, yeah right. It is RARELY cheap. Both of us just got really lucky.

Yeh i am trading the 55 to i have no room either.

I have a 88gal and a 36gal fully stocked and im into this entire hobby for under $300 (that includes all the fish, all the food, all the testing equipment, and my tanks/filters)

Lets compare that to my other hobbies....
Rock Crawling - $5000+ just for the truck
R/C Cars - $300ea, and i have a few of them.
Fishing - Add the cost of the boat, all the rods reels... and I probably lose $30 in lures on every trip. I dont even want to think about it


The other day I was outside chatting it up with my neighbor and he tells me he has been into aquariums for decades, but no longer has any. However he does have a friend who breeds Cichlids and let me know he can stock my 40g for next to nothing!

I sure wish all my other hobbies worked like that
