Ok so I'm here to ask another question about my experience with Molly's. I got 3 Molly's in my 10 g. 2 female and 1 male. It seems to me that there's a pair within the trio....and the lonely female, smaller than both, gets picked on by them. She seems very lethargic and depressed..she just gave birth but her fry got eaten, yes I got my tank heavily planted. I got 8 years of experience but this is my first time doing Molly's and they seem pretty unique. Also, all 3 go to the surface once in a while to grab air...I heard they eat scum, is this true? I just got these 2 questions for today...please help if you can.
Tank is cycled, cycled it with these fish and have been thriving for over 2 months now. I change water weekly, all levels are 0 except nitrate at 15-20 ppm. I have API master liquid test FYI. Tank is not cloudy, I also got a sailfin Pleco and 1 serpae tetra I separated from his tankmates due to his aggression. Tank is heavily planted, with a JEBO filter |

Mollies don't really pair, but they will ignore a fish in trouble. If she's smaller or sickly, she will fall of the social calendar. If you raise up some fry you can get a larger group going and she might find a place.
The surface gulping is something I've always thought related to their grazing - they feed on a lot of micro-organisms in algae, as well as on algae itself. I've watched mollies in Mexico eating for hours on end, just working over rocks and submerged cliff faces, up and down in huge numbers trying to get every last particle of food (and looking great for it). |

Do you think her being excluded from her group will cause her to die? She just swims at the top at the same spot barely moving. She lays on the gravel and it's the same..she doesn't lay sideways or breathe heavily...just very slow and moody swimming.
The male doesn't pay any attention to her at all compared to the other Molly female |

Well these past days she's been less active and the other 2 Molly's did harass her a bit.. So I separated her and put her in my other tank with neon tetras...she's just swimming in the corner at the surface....she seems so mellowed out.. I think she's gonna die pretty soon..my water parameters are perfect
Amm 0 Nitrite 0 Ph 7.8 a bit high, but it's been stable since I set up the tank Nitrates are at 20 ppm Her tail looks a bit bitten but it has a tiny white outline, maybe due to its healing..it can't be fungus, no signs of it anywhere |

I suspect there's something seriously wrong with her. That's unfortunate, but there's not much to do.

I guess so :/ I have to feed her brine shrimp. I pinch the shrimp and slowly put it near her mouth since she's always at the surface...she eats and poops...but she swims on the exact same spot like if she's paralyzed...she breathes a bit heavy exposing her gills a bit.. But it's not rapid breathing just heavy and deep

How hard is your water?
She's a molly - when you wrote the pH was high at 7.8 - that's actually low for her species. Mineral poor water can be a terrible stress for a molly (mineral rich is a stress for neons). |

Well my water MUST be soft in my neon tetra tank because I haven't added any substance to keep it stable.. But my water is very soft because my Molly tank used to suffer from pH swings so I started adding a little bit of baking soda every day making the ph rise slowly so it wouldn't harm the fish.
In other words, my water is soft because my Molly tank water has pH swings, but for some reason my neon tank is perfect... Is been at 7.8 forever.. And my Molly tank would always drop to 6.0 from 7.8+ in one day |
