Default Water very cloudy after adding moss

My water was pretty much crystal clear, until I added moss to the tank. It's the same moss from my other tank, and my other tank is crystal clear. I have cleaned the tank, cleaned the filter, done huge water changes, and it fixes it temporarily, but not long term. Any suggestions?

Hello nas...

Some tanks seem prone to cloudy water, no matter how slight the disturbance. Moving or introducing plants with the small particle matter that comes with them, large water changes can stir up small bits of plant and animal matter too.

I have this problem with a 45 G when I change the water every week. I have a small Aqua Clear HOB filter I have in reserve and keep some polyfiber pads and fill the filter with the pads, fill it and plug it in. I let it run for 24 hours or so and the water clears right up. This cloudiness comes back the next week, so I just leave the extra HOB on the tank. Guess the upside is, there's a little more surface movement and the water stays clearer too.

With a large tank you'll likely need a larger HOB, but if you have one handy, set it up and run it for a few hours or a day with nothing but polyfiber in it. It might do the trick.

Thanks. Unfortunately I have no room for HOB, it's about 1" from the wall, just enough room for the hoses for the rena underneath. I am going to change the pads, add some filtration media I think, and hope for the best. Not sure where else to go with it.

Cloudy water usually means a bacteria bloom. It will go away with good filtration, aeriation and time.
