Default Unsure of what to do

I planned on getting armed tailed barracuda. My son also wanted a tank. I figured 2 birds with one stone. I'd get him a guppy breeder tank and I'd have my feeder guppies. I'm now getting cichlids instead of the barracuda so I no longer need feeders. My son still wants the guppies but I have nobody to give the fry too. His tank is only 20g so I'm not sure how many I can safely have. I also have no idea what to so with the extra fish?

You can still feed the fry to the cichlids. They will enjoy the treat once in awhile.

Won't taking the fry from a freshwater tank and putting them into a freshwater tank, with salt, kill them?

Just for the record, the salt in your cichlid tank does not make it saltwater.

I understand, I just thought that dumping them into another tank that doesn't have the same water with different ph, water temp And salt would be such a shock to the tiny fry, that the shock would kill them instantly

i think you will be ok...especially if you dont feed your cichlids for the day the fry will be munched when they get into the tank anyway, either way their are fish food.

feed the cichlids, they will love them. My only concern is your son, does he know his babies will be eaten? lol

Cool... Thanks one other question... Why when I research swordtails, it says the need at least a 20g tank BUT, the CHINESE swordtails that are completely red, eyes and all, need at least a 30g tank?

I'm going to have to talk to him about it. He knew I was going to feed the guppies to the barracuda but he said it was ok as long as I don't take the babies
