So... I have a 75 gallon now. I have 5 bleeding hearts that like to stay at the bottom( they were in another tank before) and my Bala likes the bottom half of the tank too ( just came from my other tank and will be getting more of him soon). I wanted to eventually get a couple rams. Are they bottom dwellers too? If so, what is a good fish to out in with these guys that like middle to top of the tank?? Thanks!!

Swordtails or platies would be good.

A school of Hatchet fish would be nice - but make sure you have a lid with no holes as they DO jump!
Your Bala should be in a group (they like to shoal) but I don't think a 75g will hold more than 1 Bala - they get huge... maybe re-home him and go with something smaller?

a 75 is temporary for him and maybe two others until we get out 12-150g for our basement. He was just in our 36 so we had to get him out. Hes doing well in the new tank with the tetras. Our 36 is full of our Platys so we didnt want them in the 75 too. So Rams arent mid- to top dwellers, huh? I heard they are shy skiddish fish

From what I've heard, Rams are mid to bottom dwellers..... I was looking into German Blues and Bolivan Rams and they tend to stick to the middle and bottom of the tank. Cute fish though.
Glad to hear the Bala will be moving eventually and with some Bala friends too. :D Angel fish would indeed be nice in your 75g. They aren't terribly aggressive unless spawning - I've found at least. I have 2 males in my 36g and so far they haven't bothered my Harlequins... I did add the Angels when they were small though, so they kind of grew up with the Harleys, and now see them as "friends" and not "food." (I still do watch to make sure that doesn't change, lol.) But as I said, Hatchets (Silver or Marble) would be great as top dwelling fish. They have adorable little fins that "flap" like bird wings. Just watch for any holes in the lid as they are great jumpers!
