Default Throw away???

I bought a 46g Bowfront tank from a guy who had it set up as a salt water tank. It's been sitting dry for about a year. I cleaned everything up pretty good. This stone I soaked, cleaned with viniger, soaked, scrubed and repeated. I got a really really good cleaning and long soakings... I put it in the tank today and all of a sudden, white stuff starts flaking off? Could it be dried salt deposits for him? Why didn't it flake in all the soakings I did berfore? I even scrubbed it with a plastic hand brush...

I obviously took it out...Do I just throw it away now? I can't seem to clean it, I've tried and who would want something that flakes off in their tank?

See all the white deposits on it? I circled some for you to see...That's what's flaking off into the tank.

I'm no geologist, but that looks like limestone. In which case, your KH will be astronomical. Do you have a testing kit for KH (carbonate hardness/alkalinity)?

Naw had one of those myself. Soak in a lot of vinegar and water for a couple hours then take a wire brush to it.
