Default Tank stand for 140g half cylinder?

As I posted the other day, I am getting a 140 gallon, acrylic, half cylinder tank and all the filters, lights etc. that go with it. Except a stand. It is sitting on the floor of the home it is in now. It is about 4 1/2 feet in diameter and about 3 1/2 feet tall. As you can imagine, I want this to be my showpiece tank and not sitting on the floor.

Anyway, as I now sit in my den with 6 tanks I cannot figure out where to put it without a stand. I've looked all over the net and cannot find a stand for the thing. Am I just looking in the wrong places or am I going to have to have a custom stand built. I do know a cabinet maker but he will not work for free.

Are there plans for such a thing? I know that 140 gallons of water will weigh over a thousand pounds so this stand is going to have to be really strong. I will check out the floor to make sure it will support it and do some shoring if needed.

If this does not satisfy my MTS and desire for a big tank, I’ll need professional help or go to work at Sea World. (hey, that’s not such a bad idea! I can retire in two years and that’d be a fun way to pass the time.)

If you know a cabinet maker, let him look at the tank.He can take all the needed measurements and build you one like that.f hes good, lol.Tell him that, itll make him want to do it more, just to prove he can.

Also ask him how much he will charge to build it.

Yeah, he's an old rock climbing friend of mine. I've had his life in my hands on a rope so he might make me a deal. I am also going to Lowes today to see what kind of industrial shelves they have that I might convert to a stand. If so, I might be able to cover the shelf with something that looks a bit better. I really don't want to spend a thousand dollars for a stand for this thing.

Will definitely have to be a custom stand, which can be fun to make if you are good at it. I would say your weight estimation is a little light. My 125s are estimated at 1400lbs.

Sorry about no pics. The deal is actually a little strange. About two weeks ago my father-in-law was murdered. On Monday, the number one suspect killed himself after a hard interview with the cops. Case closed. I was offered the aquarium during the wake. Seemed bad taste to take pics even though we were not close. In fact, he had threated to kill me some years ago. I never got more than two feet from my gun for years. (still don't get too much further!)

I may ask my brother-in-law to snap a few. I plan on getting down there quickly before it gets sold, damaged, etc.

Btw, what do you think about some industrial shelving?

My condolences to your wife and yourself, Sammy.

I wouldn't trust shelving to look good.

Thanks, but the man was a drug dealer who beat women and children. I had him put in jail for almost a year. Everytime he heard my name he would make the shape of a pistol with his hand and pretend to shoot. He was robbed and killed in a drug deal gone bad. I truely had to carry a gun ALL the time to protect myself and my family. Honeslty, the world is a better place without him. Sorry to air such dirty laundry.

So, I just finished my 50% wc on all six of my tanks along with filter maintenance, etc. and now am starting to set up my 20g long. All my fish seem to be doing really well.

I am especially happy with the rainbows in the 60g tall. They have gotten so big and colorful. My Kribs are as big as any I've ever seen and my two Clowns, holy smoke, are they a pair. Some of the most personalable fish I've ever seen and growing big too. They are about 4 or 5 inchs long and just gorgeous as they can be. Everybody who is not familiar says, "Wow, what are those?". I love it. They will be moved to the 140 as soon as it's ready. The two big black Angels in the 20 hex have not bred but I don't care. My Cichlid tank is doing well also. The two Electric Blue Ahli's look big enough to catch with a lure and there is minimal aggression in the tank.

I think I have an idea of what to use for a stand without spending a ton of money. I will get a piece of strong metal cut to the exact shape, put it on my fireplace hearth and put the pumps etc. inside the fireplace. I don't use the darn thing anyway. I am just thinking out loud here.
