Hi All,
I have had a 6 inch Bala / Silver shark go belly up overnight. This shark has lived in the current tank for about 1 year now and he was fine last night. This morning I have rechecked the tank and all is normal apart from annomina levels that are getting a reading but are still very low. The water temp is 25 deg C. The only thing that has changed in this tank is that a 7 inch Black shark has become a little more territorial since a 10% water change. This is a 8ft x 2ft x 2ft tank and has another 5 Bala shark, 3 rainbow, 2 red tail and a black shark. This also has 3 sailfin Pleco. Over all this is a very peaceful tank with the largest fish been an 8 inch Bala and the largest Pleco is about 10 inch. Does anyone have any thoughts about what could have happened? I am focusing now on any concern there could be for other fish in the tank. Many thanks, Jarad

Well I don't know about the black shark, never had one, but the redtail can get fairly aggressive. Seems like the fish have plenty of room. Are the balas bigger than the redtail? Balas are also known to freak out and run into the glass, he may have done that and done some serious damage.

The Bala's do freak out occasionally and with an 8ft runway the can get some speed up before hitting the side of the tank. The red tails are between 3 and 5 inch when the Bala are between 4 and 7 inch. The 5 inch red tail picks on anything smaller than it when it comes too close but this Bala is slightly bigger than the red tail. Thank you for your feedback,

I've had a 4 inch redtail that would go after a 5 inch syno, so with them size don't make much difference. But I would more lean towards damage the way balas are.
