Hi,
I am currently setting up my second tropical tank. It has a couple of ornaments and some wood. I don't know the exact and I'm not to concerned. It is above 60 liters (UK.) I have some questions: 1) I want to get some potted plants, most likely Java fern possibly some others. Can I keep them in puts and put them in the small sized gravel which is a few inches deep without them dying? I won't get a Co2 injector and I am not worried about the plants thriving, just as long as the survive. I plan to get alot of plants. 2) The wood I have isn't bog wood. But is actual wood and is sold for aquatic use. Will jave ferns still grow on it? 3) The tank is for breeding kribensis, can I get just a male and female? I have a low budget and don't want to spend out on a group of them just to mate two. 4) What shoaling fish can go with kribensis and not be a threat to thier babies? 5) My filter is very loud, has been running for a couple of days. Help? Thank you for you time. |

First,welcome!Let me answer those that I can,lol
1.Java fern will not grow too well in gravel,it needs to be tied to the driftwood. The roots are more lie tendrils, used to attach it to rocks and wood, not to be buried. The rhizome is where it gets the nutrients(the horizontal stem like piece the leaves grow out of)and should not be buried or it can die off. 2.Java fern will still brow attached to it,just use fishing line or cotton thread to tie it on there. 3.I have no experience with kribs so someone else will need to help you there. 4.most small fish will eat smaller fish so I would be careful there. If you want to breed them then dedicate a tank just for them. 5.What type of filter is it?

Do I need to remove the substrate from the fern when I get it? Also will I need t add liquid nutrients?
Not sure about the filter. Nothing posh a cheap one from 'the range' if your UK you'll know the store. It's got three chambers: sponge, these round White hula hoop crisp type things and something else. All the chambers are attached properly. |
