Default Setting up Fry "tank"

Some of you might remember that my Dalmatian Mollie gave birth to about 50 (just can't really count them) two weeks ago. They are in a planted, filtered, aerated 10g with lots of algae. Naturally, they are growing like weeds.

I've been feeding them my special mix of ground brine shrimp, tropical flake and Spirolina. They also love to eat the algae wafer I put in there for the Otto.

I can see that they are going to outgrow the 10g quickly and I don't want another bunch of small tanks. (I want a GIANT tank!) Anyway, I bought a couple of those plastic containers, 14 gallon each. My plan is to set up one as the "overflow" tank as these Mollies get bigger. I am going to put it in my other bedroom which is not kept as cool as my den. I am (today) going to put water in it, a hob rated for 30 gallon tanks, and an air stone.

I don't think this "tank" will really cycle so I plan on doing 50% wc, every other day. No plants, no substrate, no nothing except the babies. There is no light except ambient. Temp should be around 76 all the time.

Do you guys think this will work? I plan on moving half of them when they get about 1/2 inch long. Once they get big enough, I'll give them away or to the LFS for credit. After that, I don't really plan on staying in the baby fish business. They're cute, a little fun but more hassle than it's worth, at least for me.

You should at least add some moss for the babies, and it will help the water too.50% change is good. They are alot of work, you are right.I really wish pet stores would inform people that livebearers are water rabbits and to be prepared. Its alot of work that can be avoided at the very least.

Thanks Majerah, I knew livebearers will "live bear" for sure! lol. I always say any female livebearer is always pregnant. It was mostly my wife who wanted to save them. And as she has been so patient with me and this hobby, whatever she wants, other than decor, she gets!

Moss? Like the moss balls? I was thinking to maybe get some more Comboba, or just take some from the 10g they're in now but what about light? I just put the container in the other room and filled it. There is a lamp next to it so maybe that could help the plants?

Heck, I even considered getting a kiddie pool, filling it, dumping in some floating plants, putting it outside and just see what happens. I have a greenhouse (open now, due to heat) a screened room and an outbuilding. I wouldn't want birds to get them but they'd need light. It get's HOT here in Memphis.

You can do a kiddie pool, but you would need to put a pond filter on it. Put it in an area that gets a lot of shade and just toss some plants in there to help give them cover. I do htat a lot with my endlers in the summer time. I feed maybe once a week because they get a lot off food. I have found daphina and other sorts of small creatures in there when I would check it.
