Hey guys. Brand new to the forum, thanks in advance for any help. I had three or four nice tanks about 5-10 years ago, but got away from the hobby during college and now looking to get back into it.
I have a nice place in my house that would hold about a 100g tank (five feet length, 25 inches depth and 26 inches height to work with), but am curious with all the new technology what you think the best tank to buy brand new is. The one I could find online is the Uniquarium Rectangular Aquarium from AcquariumsDirect.com (sorry, couldn't post the link as I haven't posted five posts yet). Does anyone have any better suggestions as to which actual tank to buy? (I know, super first step here). Thanks! -nat |

Ive been quite happy with my marineland 150.
I like that glass is more scratch resistant than acrylic. Going with only 100G I would think any modern tank of a common brand would be fine. its when you get into the super thick glass required for the big tanks that clarity becomes an issue IMO. When I build my 700, I'll probably go with acrylic, but only because of weight and clarity. I mean really, breaking down a monster tank, moving 3 ft fish, re cycling the thing, just to buff out scratches is not something I look forward too. So personally, for a 100g, I'd recommend glass. (or anything small enough to just pick up and move for that matter.) Welcome back to the hobby, and to the forum.

A little patience and CL will save ya a bundle.. I picked up a PERFECT 125 with stand and reptile equip for 125.00.. sold off the reptile equip and made money and still have the tank.. Spent 30.00 on used lighting.. The glass on this tank is 100% perfect.. Bill in Va.

I used to think I'd preffer salt.
but Ive found so many cool and unusual fresh water fish and critters, I really think that if I had to have only one tank, and could afford either, I'd probably still stay with freshwater. For the money I'd spend on a 100g saltwater tank and stocking it, I could have a 1000Gallon tank and some bunches of the coolest fish in the world.
