Hi I have q 20 gallon long that houses a happy betta along with 4 corry's.
I added a few very small yoyo loaches (it appears) a zebra loach and two tiny clowns. I was just told by another forum that the clowns will get too big and yes I have see nthem huge but assumes this environment would keep their size down. He said that if they are left there they will still get way to big and there growth will be stunted giving them a short life. Can you help? Are the other loaches safe? My store is one of the best in Orlando and I am obviously very dissapointed to hear this news. Can I keep my loaches? If not I guess I need to see if they can go back to the store afte this length of time and get a couple more corys and call it a loss. What do you think? I really need some expert advice here. All those loaches will get to big for that tank, What happens is the body will quit growing but the insides don't causing them a painful death and very short lifespan. Yes take them back. And personally 4 cories is all the tank will handle. Sorry for having to tell you all this.
If you want loaches your tank can handle khuli loaches but only about 4.

I agree with Susan. Take all the loaches back - with 1 betta and 4 Corys, you are pretty much stocked.

I was looking at a 50 long tonight. I just bought the new glass top and HO T5 set on it (the 20 long but might use it to move my sons mystery snails and tatras and cherry barbs in which are now in a 10g. they would look great.
May just live with the dual T8's that would come on the 55g until I could afford a nice T5 set up for it. What do you think? I know I would eventually get rid of the clowns but they wont take them back. I think the yoyos would do ok as would the zebra in the 5og with just the few cory and Mr Betta boy since its 48 inches long. What do you think? I have nough filtration already as I use a 50 gallon one in my 20L. what do you think? I could try to preserve as much bio as possible with same gravel on top of new, same plants (it is a planted tank) filter etc... just a new heater. ???? ![]()

That would work, the clowns would be ok for awhile. Maybe by then you may want to go even bigger in tank size.

I agree with Susan again, lol. Although, Zebra loaches like friends too, so you may want to get him a few zebra friends. I think Zebra loaches need 3 or more and so do Yoyo loaches. Then you'd be good. (4 Corys (could even add 1-2 more as they like 6+), 3 Zebra Loaches, 3 Yoyo Loaches and your Betta and you're good to go.) You could do like Susan said and keep the Clowns for a little while, but they are schooling fish, so need 3+... I'd re-home them or trade them in.
How many Tetras and Barbs does your son have? (Just thinking about stock in the 20g.) Glad to hear that you are willing to upgrade to provide nice homes for your fish! :D
