So after spending an huge amount of time refinishing the cabinet/stand i got, i filled the tank with water(90 gallon) out on the patio. it seems there is a small leak somewhere as the is a seep of water coming out of the bottom somewhere.
SO, my question is this... what are my options? should i remove the silicone on the inside of the tank and reseal? Does a leak mean structural instability in the seams of the glass? do i need to worry this thing will burst if i just re-silicone? |

You should find out where the leak is coming from. If it is from the seams it can be re-sealed. If it coming from somewhere else that means a crack in the glass.
Sorry to hear. I guess a little late to get your money back? |

i don't see a crack in the glass anywhere it appears that it may be in a seam on the front at the bottom as the seal doesn't look the same submerged as the rest of the seams, hard to describe but it looks almost like i can see where the water is seeping through.
Best place to get the right silicone? Can you get it at Home depot? |

Yes you ca get it at HD.Just make sure it says 100% pure silicon. You dont want any antifungal or mold inhibiting agents in it,as thats toxic to the fish.

This is really turning in to an education. here is a shot of what i see that may be the culprit: this is taken with the tank full. ![]() the black part specifically, the silicone actually covers that area the same as it does across all the other seams in the tank, i suspect that because i can see the black in that area ...water has gotten in there, the rest of the seams look sealed well, but i wonder if i should just re do the entire thing. |

Judgement call on your part. Most will say leave it alone if it ain't broken. Just fix the bad area.
Did you completely fill the tank where it is now? If not, I would. Let it sit for a few days and see if any other issues show up. |

So i emptied enough water to bring it down to about 1inch below the rim. We shall see what happens. THAT said i still dont like the seal is see as shown in the picture and may re seal that part anyway, so i stopped at Home Depot looking for silicone, i didn't find anything even remotely close, and when i asked they were kind of baffled, and when i said it HAS to be 100 silicone, "it sometimes even says aquarium safe" they immediate then said, "Oh , No, we don't have ANYTHING that is aquarium safe." Where do i find the DAP product pictured? What about Lowes, maybe even walmart? |

Your lfs should have some stuff that will work. Petsmart here usually has some tank sealant.

Found the DAP product pictured above at an ACE hardware.
Since lowering the water level to below the black plastic rim, there has been ZERO leaking. Even though the water wasn't OVER the top of the rim, it seemed it wicked up under the plastic. assumption is there is a not so tight seal between the glass and the rim that i will seal up just for the heck of it since the tank will be empty. |
