Exclamation Raising Crawdads A newbie that could use pointers.

Ok so my son & I have decided to raise some Crawdads. We ended up getting 3 general crawdads from our loacl petstore. I did research and have a nice 30 gallon long tank with aerator, filter, and original creek rock set up with some good hiding spots for them.

My main questions are about diet. I have heard many things but would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to what is best. The pet store suggested I feed them rosie in the tank. This didn't seem to work as they haven't caught a one of them so now I have 6 rosies swimming around my tank. I am also raising a comet for our fish pond in this tank and they dont seem to bother him at all. I have heard they will eat his leftover food on the bottom. Is this enough for them?

I also have thrown a few earthworms in for them time to time and they LOVE them. Is there anything else I should do. I am also looking to buy a few more to raise. are their any sites that sell smaller amounts of 5 or less?

Any help would be a treat!

Thanks in advance!

Crawdads are crayfish? If so, what do you want them for to keep in the tank or for your pond? How big is the pond? If you want to keep them in the tank don't get more as they fight, often to the death. Sometimes you can keep more than one with plenty of space and plenty of hiding places. You may have problems with three in the same tank but it could work, some one with more experience may be able to advise on that. There are lots of different species of crayfish the space they need depends on the type you have. Some get quite large. As far as food they will eat anything they can get their claws on, including fish. Your goldfish may be fine if you keep them well fed but it is still at risk as they could catch it at night when it is sleeping on the bottom. They will eat left over food but with three in a tank you are going to need to give them their own food.

Also known as mudpups/mudbugs in the south, as well. We call them Crayfish and Crawdaddies up here in New England.
