Default Quick Question

I am having trouble with some terminology. I was given a 40 long tank(my favorite size), and I am not sure if the previous owner had it out in the sun, but the plastic on the top and bottom basically crumbled when I moved the tank. It holds water, so I would like to just buy a new to and and bottom plastic rim for it. 55gal size should fit it as they have the same length and width dimensions. My problem is trying to find the part, I have no idea what it is called.

So what is the plastic rim on the top and bottom of standard glass tanks called?

That would be the plastic trim.A LFS should be able to help you in obtaining a new set.

A 55g is 48", a 40B is only 36". I wouldn't put water in it without the braces....the glass will seprate at the seams. I would look online if you don't have a pet store smart enough to help you out.

You can go to some of the aquarium manufacture websites and order through them, but you will need exact measurements or else it won't fit. I have also seen people use wood trim and make their own.

Any ideas on where to look. My interent searching skills are not what I thought, I cant find any reference to this part.

Its 10 years old so it may be all-glass or whatever people were making glass tanks back then.

It is a 40L not a 40b and is the same dementions(length and width) as a 55g.
