i was at a private pond with my dad the other day and i saw a swarm of fry swarming around so i grabbed some and theres about 20 in my 5 gallon tank...they could either be crappie bluegill, or largemouth bass and i hope there bass, i cannot identify them because they are maybe half an inch long...and look like tadpoles kinda, so my questiopn is how do i raise them? so far ive seen them eat a little bit of tropical flakes

Post a pic so we can better ID the fry, because some fry require a specific diet. So first we must ID them, if not then you can go by the age old method Trial and Error, first you could try the live foods then processed industrial fry food, but really try to get us a pic.

Most fry need live foods because they usually wont touch it if it doesnt move.Agree, get a pic if possible.
OH and by live food I mean microworms,BBS,grindal worms, and mosquito larvae.

How big are they? 1/4 inch, 1/10 inch, smaller even? For many of us, the ideal solution, live food, is not so much an option. I have raised livebearer fry with just finely ground flake food with no problems. That of course, was in a planted tank with too much light and green algae on surfaces.
The best of that "live food" is the microscopic versions, rotifers and such. Good luck with that and perhaps better advice. ;=) I have heard, but never tried, that boiled egg yoke, mixed well in water, fed to fry from an eye dropper will work. But, ask yourself this; what are you going to do with them if you raise them? If you wind up with 20, 1/2 inch large mouth bass, your 5 gallon will be overstocked. Don't get me wrong, it could be fun just finding out what they are and then releasing them back into the pond. I'd just try not to kill them in the process, even though in nature, not 1 in a hundred make it to adulthood.

Hello pleco...
Since the fish were in a pond, they obviously get pretty big, too big to keep in your 5 G tank very long. Other than different water conditions, there are a number of reasons you can't keep these fish in a small aquarium. Fish of this kind don't eat the same thing we feed our tropicals, they typcially eat a kind of pellet, like you feed cats and dogs. You might be able to raise one or two in a tank, but it would need to be a 55 G minimum. You should put the fish back where you found them. B

1 largemouth bass is too big for my 125. I can't understand why you would do such a thing? We'll start with it's illegal and leave it at that.....

One point I just thought of.You cant use the dechlor on those fish and then re release them.Read the label. Its for non food fish.So if you do keep them for any length of time,it would be best to naturally age the water.

Sit a bucket out for a day or so.This way the chlorine and chloramine will dissipate.
