Default Plans on tank maintenance automation

Hello all.

Since I already have a water conditioning system.

A 55 gallon plastic barrel with two 300W heaters and
a large air stone in the bottom of the drum.

The drum is filled from a GE smart water filter system
that removes almost every toxin.
Except minerals.
but at the moment the water is pretty soft.

The drum automatically refills it self every 24 hrs or if the level goes below 30 gal.
And the system keeps a eye on the temp. If the temp is below 65F it will not pump
out water until the temp goes above 75F

I am using a ardweno micro controller to keep track of how much water is used and the temp and the water level.
That way it lets me know it is time to replace filters.
I a thinking of getting a ethernet interface and have it tweet system status and any major changes.

I already have a 1/4in insulated line from the shop where the water conditioner is. to my 46G and my 10G.
At the moment it is controlled by manual valves.
I have a tap on the output of my canister filter to a 1/2in waist water line that goes out my garden.
I made sure to use check valves to ensure noting goes the wrong direction.

I am thinking of setting up a system to do 1 gallon wc every day.
on both tanks.
I figure small wc are less intrusive on the water chemistry and will do the most good.

So far this system has cost me about $200.00
Not having to use buckets and making a mess. Priceless!

this is really interesting! keep us updated I am excited to hear how this turns out. you should also keep a tab of all the money you spend. I used an arduino board to make a destruction derby car, theyre quite easy to program and use for just about anything
