Default pearl gourami trouble

Hi everyone! I have 3 pearl gourami's. My large female is staying at the top with her head at the water level. I've had other pearls do this and generally die. This one appears to still be eating and defending the area that she is hanging in. What I just noticed that seems really odd is that her eyes are black! I know the other ones have the black stripe in their eyes that cordinate with their body stripe but hers are almost completely black! Any ideas, please!! Thanks

In order for anybody to help you, you need to tell us quite a few things.

what are your test results for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates
how big is the tank
temperature
how long has it been set up
how long have you had this fish
what type of acclimation did you perform
what other other fish are in the tank
what are your maintenance practices
filtration
any recent changes
do you use water conditioner
salt

I could go on......

It is usually things in the tank that causes problems...not just a fish is sick from nothing extrenal to it

Hi, sorry didn't know you needed all that info. I don't have a chem kit so don't know nitrates etc. Tank is 30 gal, couple of real plants, 2 clown loaches,2 pleccos,1 khuli loach, 2 black skirt tetras, and one orange tetra, plus 2 other pearl gouramis. The tank is about 2 yrs old. The pearls are the newest addition but that was back in April or May. They have tripled in size since then and have been very healthy. There are a few snails. We are on a farm so we use well water and change them about every 3 weeks. Oh yeah temp has always been about 28C.
