Hi, I haven't been here in a while, trying to group. After losing my old parrot, I was left with two smaller ones, about silver dollar body size. They learned well from the super personality old guy. About three weeks ago I added two smaller parrots. Since then they all stay hidden. Ofcourse they come out to eat, but only when they see the food, not when the see me coming. Is there anything I can do to help bring out their personalities and become more active. At first glance you would think the tank was empty (50 gal) thanks for advice!

Wow! 500 gallon? Lots of room for hiding. I only have one parrot in my 55g community and he is the dominate fish in the tank. When I first got him he hid constantly. Now he makes a mad dash for his hiding spot with sudden movements near the tank. They appear to be very skittish in my experience with them. It's shyness has improved over the last six months.

Oh gosh, glad you pointed out 500, that's what I get for not proof reading, 50!
Maybe I should put another kind of fish in my tank. I had had my old guy for over 7 years and he had such a personality, always at the glass, would follow me, seemed to always be sayin, hey I'm here come visit! The two little ones learned from him, but now that he is gone, they hide out. I guess if they are happy, then I should happy. Thank you for writing. What others do you have in your tank? |

With my Parrot are two Angels, two Silver Dollars, A Blue Gourami, A Red Tail Shark, nine assorted cory's, a school of white skirted tetras (7) a pictus catfish, a horseface loach, and a albino African clawed frog.
The Parrot is the boss of this tank followed by the largest angel, the smaller angel than the Gourami. Aggression is very minimal. Occasional chasing is about it. Every one gets along most of the time.
