So what would be idea water parameters for a 60 gallon community tank, with drift wood and 3 plants. Fluval canister filter, and uv sterilizer. Heated at about 78. Gouramis, angels, silver dollar, cory cat, pleco and a few neon tetras!

Default Re: parameters

0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm Nitrites, less than 20 ppm Nitrates and slightly soft and slightly acidic water. Total hardness around 50-75, total alkalinity around 50-100. (these total alkalinity numbers kinda of confuse me, so don't trust me too much here) The driftwood will bring your pH down I think, a bit. Some woods tend to leach some tanic acid but the Pleco cats love wood and need it. Remember, that Pleco is going to get big.

All of your fish will be fine in a neutral pH of 7.0 but would also do well at 6.5 My suggestion about Neons is to get at least 9 or 10. For me, they just don't school correctly with low numbers.

Default Re: parameters

Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - Under 20-30 ppm

If your water is soft - neutral your fish should be fine (dH for most of these fish was between 5-15)

Ph around 6-7 is good for the fish you have

Most of the fish you have also required acidic - neutral water as well

Hope this helps.

Edit: Oops. Was researching some numbers for you and didn't realize someone already answered with pretty much the same as what I came up with. Oh well, at least now you can be doubly sure.

Not sure what you mean... are you asking the OP what her params are? Or are you asking what yours should be?

As the original thread has been answered, unless someone else has other ideas, I'll participate in a little thread drift.

jeckysmith, I looked at all of your posts and you really need to tell us more about what you are seeking. Here are a couple suggestions:

What size tank you have:
How long have you had it:
What type filter is on it:
Is it planted:
What kind of lighting you use:
What kind of fish you have/want:
What are your current water parameters:
Do you understand the nitrogen cycle:

I apologize if this offends, it'd just be helpful to all of us.
Thanks.
