Default Overstocked!!!!

Really worried right now, when I got my 20 gal tank.... I used to have 2 mollies, 6 glass shrimps and 6 neon tetras, My molly was pregnant and had 27 babies...so that makes it 42 fish inm 20 gal fish tank. It's been about almost two months now, no deaths.I'm worried though because I have no room in my apartment for another fish tank and funds are really low. what should I do? I wanna save all the fish without donating some of them(if possible)

BTW... I have 2 whisper power filter 20 gal and an Air pump...just to be sure, also looking to get plants(if they help). Thanks.

Even if you loaded the tank with plants and did water changes everyday your way overstocked. You need to start giving some away. Maybe the lfs would take some in trade for plants.

I agree with Susan. You need to rehome some of those babies.you can try craigslist,or if you dont mind not getting paid, freecycle.

This is one of the reasons why I think it is the worst idea to get livebearers (unless all male) for smaller tanks. Months down the road it becomes an issue. How are your readings for ammonia and nitrites? These will be the areas you'll need to watch.

Yep, I'm in the same boat with the 50 dalmation Molly babies and 12 Lyertail babies. I have them all in a super planted 10g right now and am going to move half to the 20g long I am setting up today. Pray for a short fishless cycle. (Holly says, "Yeah, right!") just kidding Holly.

My lfs tells me they will take them when they get commercial size and give me credit for dry goods. It's lot's of fun having them though. They love to eat more than any bunch of fish I've ever had. They SWARM during feeding time. I made my own fry food using tropical flake, freeze dried shrimp, dried bloodworms and heavy on Spirulina flakes. They seem to love it and are growing well.

The bottom line though is that I bought a 20g long especially for them. My wife did not want to feed them to the Cichlids and when it comes to aquariums, if she states a wish, she gets it. (She's put up with a lot with me and the hobby)

Even with heavy filtration and air pumps you are overstocked. Extra filtration will help with a small overstocking problem but the amount you have is excessive. As above have said see if your LFS will trade fry for store credit
