You sure can..i have a salt in my tank and i have a few real plants...if you were interested in getting a plant that you can keep with your cichlids i would recommend anubias, i just bought some the other day and my fish leave it alone so far and its suppose to be a hard to kill plant that will grow just about anywhere....but just a thought

Really? I asked 2 different LFS's and they both said NOTHING will live in the salt water.

There are a lot of plants that will tolerate brackish conditions. But you have a cichlid tank...so are you using marine salt or aquarium salt...?

BracPlants

Scroll down... big list... just acclimate slowly, raising salinity over 10 days or so.

using cichlid salt. I think it's 3/4 teaspoon per 10 gallons

Now that I think of it, is that going to hurt my fishless cycling? I started it 2 days ago.

don't think it'll hurt the cycling or the plants to be honest.

Adding aquarium salt and a brackish tank are different. I put salt in my tanks, but they are not brackish. Every plant I own will tolerate the recommended amount on the aquarium salt container. I own approx 40 different species of plants. I don't always add that much but they all seem to hold up when I do.
