I'm upgrading from my first tank, a 10 gallon. Unfortunately it was disastrously stocked. My LFS sold me on a featherfin cat that they swore wouldn't get larger than its current one inch size. 5 inches later, it was way too big for the tank and started picking off my tetras and shrimp. Back to the store he went! It was a beautiful fish and definitely one of my favorite, but I'm looking for a more peaceful community tank now.
I picked up a 55 gallon (with no accesories, haha) for $25 and am starting to plan my build. I'm moving in about a month so it won't be set up before then, but it's never to early to start brainstorming. I'm going to add in a school of about 15-20 neon tetras but then I wanted the rest of the fish to be black. I was considering a couple pot bellied mollies, swordtails, and a bristle nosed pleco. However, I'm stuck with the rest. It would be nice to have a bottom feeder or two. I wanted a couple cory cats, but haven't been able to find any that were solid/mostly black. Should I keep looking or are there other alternatives? I also had my eyes on a black ghost knife, but wasn't sure if he would be a little too aggressive? And finally my girlfriend seems set on getting a Black Moor as the sort of centerpiece to the tank. I know this isn't ideal, but I'm curious to see if any one else has successfuly mixed them with tropical fish? Or should I just stay away from this idea? The tank will probably stay at around 76-78 degrees. What do you guys think? Any other black suggestions? |

I would not suggest putting a Moor in a tank with tetras or guppys or any other non agressive fish that could fit in a fully grown Moor's mouth. Putting in a Moor (fully grown approx. 5 - 8 inches) in with tetras (fully grown 1 - 2 inches). they will without a doubt eat them when they are full grown. Molly's are a much safer idea. ever thinking about getting a super colorful fish like a red swordtail as the centerpiece and making all the other fish black? just a suggestion =D. and the bristlenose algae eater is one of my favorites and I have one in my 55 gal. theyre pretty cool. hope this helps. goodluck!

the moor propobaly couldnt mix with the neons cause they might get eaten and its a coldwater fish, and i read online that he BGK needs a mnimum of 75 gallons and once he reaches around a foot long he might eat the tetras. you could get black mollies for your tank but they breed like crazy and you have to have a 2 females for every male so they wont be so aggressive ive heard...and bristlenose plecos are awesome, you could put 2 in that size tank.hope this helps and good luck

Make sure to get driftwood if you get a Bristlenose.
![]() You should also get 4 Mollys, 1 male 3 female. They'll make babies but consider it as a treat for the Black Moor. Edit: I would listen to majerah :3

The moor will not mix well with the others listed.Look for another fish of a different color for the centerpiece of the tank as suggested above.
