Thank you everyone, I am planning to use white and black smooth stones in a gradient, with driftwood. The plants I am planning on using are narrow leaf java fern, anubias hastiflora, flame moss, and melon sword. I already have a creamsicle lyretail molly, two balloon mollies, a dalmation molly, a sailfin molly, a twin bar platy, two mickey mouse platies, and a sunburst platy. I may add a bristlenose pleco or a siamese algae eater.

I'm not sure what size lights to put in though.

I'm not sure what kind of filter to put in it, it seems like I need to keep my 10 gallon going. However, all I have is an Aquaeon Power Filter 10, and I'm running out of money to invest in the tank. What is a good filter to use on a 20 gallon?

A cheap filter you could use for your 20G is a sponge filter with a carbon insert in the top. It's not the prettiest nor most effective, but it's pennies on the dollar compared to the bigger power filters. Plus live plants help alot.

Look for a deal on a hang on top filter for a 30g tank. You can find one for under $25 if you look hard. Try ebay and craigs list too. If you are underfiltered, imo, you need to be sharp about your wc's. I'd 50% per week at a minimum if I was underfiltered. Heck, I do 50% per week and all my tanks are overfiltered by a a factor of 2 or 3 in most cases.

Quick question: do I need a co2 injector for these 3 plants i will have:narrow leaf java fern, flame moss, and anubias hastiflora.

Also is an air stone/air pump necessary?

air stone/air pump are only necessary if you have fish other wise only for the plants then no. as for Co2 I think if your going for DIY then sure why not but if your going to buy I think it just might be too big of an investment for only 3 plants if you plan on FULL planted then sure have at it but if your not just do your self and your money a favor and don't buy it its jut a unnecessary head ache further down the road.

I'm putting in 5 mollies and 4 platies that I have already. I may add a few algae eaters, but I'm not sure yet.

Just be careful as this is pretty close to where you want to be for stocking. Pushing smaller tanks to the edge is NOT a good idea. It becomes too easy to push them over it. 1 or 2 times you feed a little too much and you have a situation that now is challenging the life of your fish. Push if you want to, you'll have an easier time keeping at about 75%.

Yes that is true, I guess I don't really need anymore fish than what I already have. I'm trying to do fishless cycling for the tank, what would be a sensitive enough nitrate test to use?
