Default new fish to tank

i just introduced my oscar to my tank. my yellow lab seems to be taking interest into my oscar and often follows him around and rubs on him im not sure what that means? i havent noticed biting/fighting. my jack dempsey chases him a little bit but he isnt just focused on him, just did a 50% water change as well. my oscar as been to the bottom of the tank to the top of the tank eating cichilid pellets. everyone seems to be happy, but when i moved the oscar his coloration changed a lot, but it seems to be back to normal. he has a couple of damage spots. but other than that he is swimming around happily, if anyones interested il keep you guys up to date with the oscar for the next few days.

Sounds neat.I would keep an eye on them just in case things turn south, and make sure to have a backup plan for the oscar.

Cool fish, but you need to upgrade to at least a 75gal before to long.

yeah so that didnt work.. my oscar was being chased around by the larger jack dempsey. and the oscar has a bunch of scratches and scraopes on his sides and his fins are seperated if that makes sense. like they arent ripped but they are torn a little bit.. so i put him back into that miserable ten gallon tank. hes only 3 inches so he was beat up a bit, looks like we have to wait another month or two.

I wouldn't be putting an Oscar in a tank with a Yellow Lab and a Jack Dempsy!

Susan said that with the Oscar at just a few inches, you'd need to upgrade from the 60g to a 75g (at least) in a short time.... so why would you put him in the 60g when he's bigger?? That doesn't make sense at all!

Oscars can grow to the size of dinner plates (my dad had a M/F pair... they were HUGE!) One alone needs a 55g-75g tank and they also need double the filtration since they are super messy fish. (Keeping him in the 10g or even the 60g with 2 other large fish, will cause his skeleton to become stunted and he'll stop growing but his internal organs will continue to grow, and he will die a horribly painful death.)

A single Jack Dempsy Cichlid needs a minimum of 55g's and a Yellow Lab a minimum of 35g's, so I'd just leave those two fish in the 60g and get a new 55g-75g tank for the Oscar.

Sorry it's not much good news, but you really need to upgrade your tank size or re-home the Oscar.
