Default New filter and uv filter. your opinions.

thinking of hanging up my aquaclear 50 and looking for a canister filter. main reason being my Submariner UV Sterilizer/ Clarifier broke Again... 2nd one and 4 bulbs later i think its time i get an inline uv with a canister. my only worry is it wont be as quiet as an HOB filter. am i wrong, are canisters quiet?

The new filter will be for a 40 gal lake tang cichlid tank that is at capacity using the 1inch per gallon rule.

also what inline uv do you recommend?
anyone have experience with the Turbo-Twist UV.

Mine are super silent filters.

I have Eheim canisters.Though they are pricey at first they are well worth it,as they are silent, hold alot of media and last for ever.

I would get a filter rated for a larger tank,as I know from first hand experience the inch of fish per gallon rule is very flawed.

Canisters, at least the Eheims I own, are much quieter than any AC filter I've owned.

Aquarium Filter CF400 Canister 9W UV Sterilizer 370 GPH | eBay

I have one. It's awesome. Silent, powerful, well built. $90 out the door.

UV's aren't a neccessity, but are nice to have to use when needed. They don't need to be run all the time. You burn out more bulbs faster and can get expensive as you have found out. I have a uv that I have run once this year for about a week and that is it. I have one tank for some reason once a year in the spring will get green water. No other tank does this, just the one.
