Exclamation Need some advice asap

HEy i got a 50g breeder tank from guy at work,it was filthy to the point i dont know how the fish is still alive,It came with a 8-10 inch Jack Dempsey,I cleaned the tank for 2 hours can still cant get the junk off the glass any ideas,The water was 58 degrees crazy right,im gonna replace the gravel with sand,get a heater the one he came with is junk dosent work at all.What would be the best thing to do to make this a great home for him? any advice would be great thanks.

razor blade if you already tried an aquarium scrapper. If the tank is acrylic, you did say glass, i know, the razor will cut into it.

1. What did you clean with? Vinegar is great for cleaning hard water deposits, but you'll need to have the fish out of the tank. Also, if all else fails, a weak solution of bleach in the full tank (again, obviously without the fish in there) would do for biological crud.

2. Friends! And lots of hiding places, and maybe some cichlid-resistant plants (that won't get eaten).
