its been a little over a week since i had to rip apart my setup and throw out a tank stand due to a leak.
since then i have re-sealed the tank and built a new stand. ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting Sturdy but heavyyyyyyyyyy finally set it all up today. the issue i'am having is. my fish have been stuck in a 10 gal tank for the last week. they are starting to have issues with each other cramped in a small tank so i want to get them back in the 40gal ASAP. the sand from the 40gal has been sitting in buckets with water just up to the top of the sand. all the rocks are doing the same. the filter was placed in the 10 gal as was the heater and some other rocks/ deco. my in-tank UV filter broke when i was setting it up tonight so the idea of using that to clear up the water went out the window... i have a small powerhead moving the water around in the 40gal but its not going to clean it. if i set up an air bubbler for the 10 gal that the fish are in, how long can i steal the filter for??? will they be ok over night with just the bubbler and no filter? this way i can stick the filter in the 40gal to clear up the water a bit. ideas? |

How dirty is the 40 gallon? If it is just debris and old food floating around you might want to keep an eye on the ammonia levels in the water, but as long as your filter still has sufficient BB in it you should be fine. As for the "stuff" in the water goes the fish should be fine in the 40 gallon for a day or so with the water like that. As soon as you put your original filter back in the 40 it will start to clear the water out. Keep in mind that fish in the wild swim in water that is much worse and they do just fine

Your power head may be preventing the suspended particles from settling. As stated in the last response.. have ya ever examined a river after a heavy rainstorm?..Pull the filter from the 10G .. move it to the 40.. throw an airstone in the 10G. Bill in Va.
