Ok so i got up this morning and just watching my tank and i noticed this
Is this a swordtail fry. I noticed my felmale was getting plump but didnt see a black spot making her gravid. Then this morning she is a lot thinner. So my thought is she was preggo and i didnt notice correctly and take the right action. ALl i can see is 2. They both burrowed beneth the substrate of the gravel near the glass. One i got in my net right now the other is still in the gravel. Should i leave it there. im heading out soon so if i need it i will get a breeder tank, the little plastic ones. What do i do to keep these guys alive and feed and all. Should i let them be where i found them beneth the gravel or should i net them and put them in a breeder tank (the little plastci guppy breeder). Never had fry. The only other thing i did was introduce a amano shrimp to the tank 3 days ago but to me these look like tad poles....? |

I would put it it a small 10 gallon aquarium with a small sponge filter and see what he grows up to be. Good luck.

I guess it could be any fish that you have female livebearers. It is possible there is more. The ones you see are close to the glass, but you have those crevices for them to get into everywhere. They probably ended up there from being chased by other fish. I would just leave them. They will find their way out on their own and you risk the chance of crushing them if you try to dig them out.

my swordtail fry are amazing hiders, there are 4 in my community 55 gal tank right now and they have gotten big enough (about 1/6 of an inch) that my other fish dont mess with them at all. i have sadly crushed a baby trying to get it out of the gravel as a fish was trying to eat it, best to leave them alone and just make sure they have plenty of ornaments to hide in/under. as for what type of fry it is I'd just wait for a few weeks and it should become apparent. good luck! |

ok here ia silly/not so silly question. I got 3 and like you guys said im gonna leave the others as i dont want to hurt them. But i need to do a PWC tomorrow. I was thinking if i did it and was careful and then check the waste water before tossing it for the fry. I cant stop the PWC as it is needing it due to some food and just time to do it? I should be ok as long as im careful and check correct?

You'll be fine. I put my suction line over to one side and at the top (try to) to keep it away from fry. I don't run my water to a bucket, just out the door. Just watch them. I have a tank that has anywhere between 10-20 fry that would not be able to swim against the outward flow at any given time.
