Congrats! So glad to hear that you upgraded! Try and use all the gravel from your 10g tank in the new tank, (you will probably need some extra).
Also, run the filter from the 10g tank on the new tank along with the new filter, until the new filter is "cycled" and full of good bacteria. This will help your tank from going through a huge cycle again. Wait a few weeks and test the water before adding the new fish, to make sure the tank hasn't gone into another cycle. Once you're sure everything is cycled and safe, you can slowly add new fish. Getting your 3 Kuhlis back, a few corys and maybe even a few more barbs, then your tank will be stocked. Since you are getting the Kuhlis back, I'd take the Loach back to the store - he's going to get big and he should be with others of his kind. Don't go nuts, but with a bigger tank, you have more options! :D Live plants are also great because they look nice, make the fish happy, and they eat ammonia and nitrates. Just make sure you have the right light bulb for growing them. Can't wait to see pics!!!!!

What Light bulb is required for live plants ? I'm using the bulb that came with the tank and noticed that a lot of my plants are starting to have leaves that are turning brown and one of my anacharis plants has completely died.

You can try a Life Glo bulb, they are for plants, or you can get shop lights or make CFL fixtures.

Setting up my new tank, I put my fish in the 5.5g. I have no other choice, but, is this ok for the night and until I get home from school?

here it is so far. the decor is only from my previous tank, and i will probably get some more. as you can see by the lack of fish in this picture, my fish are very camera shy. seriously, there are 8 very shy fish in this tank.
[IMG] btw, move this thread if it needs to be in the fresh water builds thing.

I am currently trying to rehome the zebra loach, but the LPS won't take him. Nobody else wants him. ???????

Try craigslist list the loach for free, you may find someone. An LPS like petsmart or petco won't take the fish back, I talked to one of the employees about it once. They have inventory based stocking and unless you bought it 14 days ago and have the receipt they will not take the fish back.
Most LFS will take them however, try to find a fish specialty store in your area. |

The pet store told me to get the 20 gallon if I want a zebra loach, so I sold the ten, and got a good deal on the 20. Everyone sure I need to rehome him?

well unless you get 4 - 5 more of them you should find a place to give him back too. With your current stock you really can't house that many fish unless you gave others away.

As for the cycle being done... did you use all the gravel from the 10g (and make sure it stayed wet during the transfer) as well as use the old 10g filter media (also making sure it stayed wet too?) Also, did you keep the old ornaments wet during the change over? If not, then the tank isn't cycled and you will need to wait before adding more fish.
Get a liquid test kit and test the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Cycling takes 6-8 weeks - less time if you used the old filter media, ornaments and gravel. I'd suggest running the 10g filter on the 20g tank, along with the new 20g filter, to help seed the new filter media with good bacteria. If you let the old media dry out, then all that good bacteria is dead. Nice tank though! Now, make sure you have the right lighting and get some live plants in there. :D
