Just having a bit of a cry really. I have successfully cycled with fish. Todate I have 10 neons (that I cycled with) 4 cory's, 3 zebra loach and 2 Bolivian rams. All seem to be in top shape and have had not problems I any way. Over the weekend family went for a drive and we went to a fish shop that was about 3hours drive away. We purchased a special pleco and 2 kribs. Pleco was fine and settled with no problems. One of the kris settled faster than I have ever seen. As soon as I put him in tje tank he made himself right at home. What a cool fish! Anyway the other krib was not so good. He had clamped fins and was struggling to hold vertical :-(, must be my bad driving lol. Anyway I drip acclimated him and gave an extra dose of stress coat hoping for the best. He was not well! After 24hrs I had to pull him out. He was getting worse and was even lying on his side. I put him on ice and went to sleep real fast.
So yeah, my first loss and I'm gutted!! Is it ok to have a krib by themselves or is it best to have a couple? Would 2 females be ok?? Sorry if my English is bad to read, I typed this from my phone... |

Well, if you kept them in the bag for transport, the lack of oxygen probably did not help for a 3 hour drive. They do make a battery powered aerator primarily for fishing but they work well, you would have to have a small vented clean bucket for it.
From what i know Kribs will be fine by them self, the bigger problem is if they pair off and start breeding they beat up on other fish. I also believe 2 females will be fine if they are round the proper size and don't pair off. |

3 hours shouldnt have had a thing to do with it. Shipping fish in bags takes at least 2 days and the fish are fine. It could have been a temp change, ph change or sick to begin with.

Could have been a number of things. The shop filled the bags with O2. They were in a poly box and we were carful. If he wasn't sick when we got him at the shop he sure was when we pulled him out of the box!! I asked the shop if a heat pack was required and they didn't believe so. Who knows, the others are doing well.

Aw! Sorry for your loss! I hope all goes well with the rest of your fish! (Sorry, I've never had Kribs, so I can't help you there.)
