Red face My Dream Aquarium..... *sigh

So I was dreaming up my "dream aquarium" and I was thinking:

125 gallon tank with 2 Aqua Clear 110's (so that's 220 gallons of filtration). I know a lot of you are dead set on canisters, but I LOVE the Aqua Clears, and one 110 is rated for up to a 110g tank, so I'd put 2 on a 125g and would even put a third filter (maybe an Aquaclear 70 or 90 if needed.)

Then I'd have: 12 Congo Tetras, 12 Long Finned Serpae Tetras, 12 Lemon Tetras, 6 Marble Hatchets, 6 Silver Hatchets, 5 Starlight B.N. Plecos and 10 Khuli Loaches. Of course there would be Mystery Snails too. That's fish on all levels of the aquarium and they are all community fish that if kept in large enough numbers, should not be fin nippers.

The tank would have sand as a substrate and have lots of real drift wood and be very well planted.

I'd have to figure out how many heaters and what lighting I'd need.... but how does the fish selection and filtration sound so far? (This tank is going to be way, way, waaaaaaaaaay in the future, but I like to dream!) :D

I also know that a lot of you don't like Aqua Advisor, but I use it as a basic tool. With two AC 110's and the fish I listed, Aqua Advisor said I'd be at 81% stocked and need to do 25% water changes weekly, and I still have +138% filtration. (I know it's not a perfect tool, but it gives a basic guide line.)

Thoughts?

Thanks.

My husband wants "bigger" fish. I told him the Congos get to be 3.5 inches or so, but he wants bigger, lol. Maybe I'll throw a pair of Pearl Gouramis in there just for him. :D

I love tetras got Lemons,Sarpaes and Red Eyes they are so colorful and fast swimmers. Right now I'm separated the Lemons one cause see one of them with a big belly (hoping is caring eggs close to drop some were so I put them all @ my 10 gals tank and divide my 20 gals. to put my guppies fry ) Problem is that I don't see a male Lemon between them, think all are females. Tomorrow i will try to find @ least one male hopefully.

The 125 doesn't need to be a far away dream. I picked up a 125 off CL for $100.00... with stand and a ton of equip to host a monitor... Sold off the equip for 125 and still had the tank and stand!.. I'm now hosting about 600 gallons of water/fish and I've yet to spend a dime out of pocket. Ya just need to hawk CL and recognize a good deal. That which presents itself needn't be the end-all but an opportunity to re-sell and keep moving on up. I've bought, set-up, staged and sold approx 30 tanks in the last 9 months resulting in my current set-ups.
I've two tanks yet to set up, one I own, a 33L for Rams and Apisto's yet to be secured and a 110 tall. The 110 will be primarily stocked with tetras.. I like the sound/mental image of your selection... I've not done my research on Tets as far as bottom/mid/top water column dwellers... Good luck with your pursuit and do not wait! Bill in Va.

HOB filters lack the media space for my taste. If you think the AC models have a lot, then you need to see how much a canister rated for your size aquarium holds. It is better that any filter you add is able to stand on it's own. AC would be the best way to go budget for sure, but if you're dreaming, why not dream big?

Saw some Congo Tetras for the first time today....pretty fish. Also saw wild caught Roselines.....if I was starting one of my 125s today it would have 7-8 of those. Like your choices though.

Thanks Ben.

I will look into Canisters for sure when the time comes... Mike like's the big canister beasts, lol.

Aren't Congos gorgeous? I love them!

I like Rosalines too! I haven't seen wild caught ones though - I bet they were beautiful!
