OK so this is a heads up and a question.
First the heads up: Marineland is offering a 10 dollar mail in rebate on this filter (until feb 1st 2012) and there are two places online selling it for 36 bucks. One place has free shipping on orders of 49 dollars or more. I was in need of a timer for my light so I added a timer and a package of 4 filters for the 400 to get me up to 49 bucks so I could get free shipping. After the rebate I think its a rocking deal, the reviews I have seen on this filter are good. Now the question: this filter has the option of running 4 filters or 2 filters and two removeable media cartridges that you can fill with whatever you like. I suppose you can run just 2 filters also. What do you recomend using? The four filters or the 2 filters and the media cartridges? If you say the media cartrides what would put in them? This filter is overkill for me right now with my 29 gallon so I might just wait untill I get a bigger tank to use it, I felt the deal was just too good to pass up. I hope to upgrade to a 50 to 75 gallon tank in the future. One more thing, is there such a thing as too much filtration? Should I not use this filter on my 29 gallon? |

IMO there is no such thing as overfiltration. I have a 350 marineland on my 10 gal. and it looks great the fish like going under the waterfall return. What online store has the free shipping? I want to put 2 of those on my 150 planted tank to come on at night with the airstone to help with gas exchange.

Foster and Smith offers free shipping on order of $49 or more. That's where I got my substrate, filter and other things I needed for my new set up

Pretty good deal.
As for the question,I have no experience with the filter itself, but am a fan of using my own media.I like the eheim effhimech. It seems to have alot of surface for BB to grow on it.Also, since my fish are blackwater fishes sometime the addition of peat is welcome for them as well. And no,no such thing as over filtration.Maybe too much flow but you can find a solution to that pretty easy.
